Fake bombs in airsoft: best practices and scenarios

11 September 2026

Nothing raises the tension like a countdown ticking away. An electronic fake bomb gives a clear objective, forces teams to take risks and creates the kind of endgames people still talk about afterwards. You still need to pick the right model and build it into the scenario properly. Here are our best practices.

Choosing the right fake bomb

Not all dummy bombs play the same way. The right choice depends on your players, your field and the level of simulation you are after.

ModelGameplayBest for
Dummy C4 BombCut all the wires (1 to 6), only while the LED flashes green; 3 difficulty levelsAll players, casual games, CQB
C4 PRO BombSame principle + motion sensor, 110 dB alarm, Hacking Device port, waterproof casePro fields, escorts, long games
Dummy Explosive Charge1.5 kg, defused by unplugging, cutting wires or pressing the button; steady flashesRealistic simulation, several objectives on the field
SEUMTEX KitOne team arms, the other disarms, back and forth; respawn wave manager modeTight budgets, Counter-Strike style scenarios
MAG 2.1 CaseMastermind-style code to crack, penalties, conquest and VIP modesPuzzle scenarios, demanding organisers

Also check battery life (batteries or a built-in battery for a full day), weight if the bomb has to be carried, and resistance to knocks and rain if you play outdoors.

Building it into a scenario

  • Main objective: the bomb is at the heart of the mission (plant, defend, defuse).
  • Secondary objective: a bomb in a corner of the field forces a team to split its forces.
  • Game event: a countdown triggered halfway through forces a zone to be evacuated and reshuffles the game.
  • Trap: a hidden bomb near a passage, using the C4 PRO and its motion sensor: moving it speeds up the countdown.
Tip: use organiser pre-arming to lock the settings before the game. Players can no longer change the countdown duration.

4 ready-to-play scenarios

Commando operation

Two teams, "Commandos" and "Defenders". The commandos must reach a key installation and arm the bomb there; the defenders must stop them or defuse it before the countdown ends. The SEUMTEX Kit is perfect for this back-and-forth.

Hostage rescue

The "Rescuers" enter a building held by the "Kidnappers" to free hostages and defuse a C4 bomb. To add a medical dimension, give the hostages MedSys bracelets.

Industrial sabotage

Several explosive charges are spread across a compound. The saboteurs must set off at least two; the defenders patrol and defuse. Each charge can use a different defusing mode.

The sensitive package

In the VIP mode of the MAG 2.1 Case, one team carries the case from point A to point B: every jolt costs points. The other team sets up ambushes. Then swap sides and compare scores.

Mistakes to avoid

  • A countdown that is too short: players cannot reach the bomb in time and the mission becomes frustrating.
  • Unclear rules: who can defuse, how long it takes, what happens if it goes off? Everything must be said at the briefing.
  • A bomb nobody can find: hide it, but give clues (zone, sound signal, map).
  • Skipping the test run: switch every device on before the game and check batteries and wires.

Safety and common sense

Our bombs are dummy replicas with no explosive components, designed for games. They must never leave the field: carry them in a closed bag and never display them in a public place, where they could be mistaken for real devices.
