A game that comes down to eliminating the other side runs out of steam fast. Scenario equipment gives players something else to do: a zone to cross, information to recover, a role to hold. The objective replaces plain contact.
A constraint a rifle cannot solve
That is the whole principle. Players who dislike direct contact find a role, and long games keep their rhythm because something is always happening away from the front line.
Two approaches
- A survival time nobody knows — the Dosimeter is a countdown whose length is drawn at random. The organiser sets a maximum survival time, and each unit draws a value between half that maximum and the maximum itself. Set identically and switched on together, five dosimeters will stop at five different moments: nobody knows who will fall first in the contaminated zone, which rules out any calculation and forces a quick exit.
- A narrative thread — the Ghost Device is a dummy phone you fill yourself: messages, photos, contacts, notes. Players reach it through a QR code placed on the field, on a 3D-printed shell or one cut from plywood. It is the ideal way to feed intel through without interrupting play.
Beyond airsoft
This equipment is also used in escape games, live-action role-play and training exercises. The devices are built to be handled by players who have never seen them: few controls, immediate reactions, and no settings to touch mid-game.

Does the Dosimeter measure real radiation?
No. It is a simulation: a countdown whose length is drawn at random between half the maximum survival time and that maximum. No radioactive source is involved.
Do these scenarios need a dedicated organiser?
Not necessarily. The devices run on their own once set. An organiser is still useful for narrative scenarios, where someone decides the pace of the reveals.
