A countdown… but nobody knows when it ends
The Dosimeter works like a countdown, with one fundamental difference: the time is random. The organiser sets a maximum survival time (in 1-minute steps). Each time it is switched on, the dosimeter randomly picks a time between half of this maximum and the maximum itself.
Example: with a maximum time of 2 minutes, each dosimeter will pick a time between 1 and 2 minutes. If five dosimeters are set identically and switched on at the same time, each will have a different delay — some players will die before others.
The three states
Players can press the push button at any time to check their dosimeter and see their state:
At zero, the dosimeter stays lit in red and the buzzer sounds continuously — the operator is dead.
Geiger counter atmosphere
Throughout the game, the dosimeter emits Geiger-counter-style crackles that gradually speed up. At first, the crackles are rare and discreet. The closer the end, the more intense they become — building immersive audio pressure that rises naturally without the player knowing exactly where they stand.
Uses for organisers
Radioactive zone: the organiser can declare an area of the field radioactive. Only dosimeter carriers may enter it — by switching their dosimeter on when they go in and off when they leave. This sets a random but capped time inside the zone. Players cannot stay there indefinitely.
Individual or squad: a dosimeter can be carried by a single player, or by the leader of a squad moving as a unit. The carrier warns teammates when things get critical, to trigger a coordinated evacuation.
Immersion first
Between the Geiger crackles, the uncertainty about the time left and the rising pressure, the dosimeter is one of the most immersive accessories in the range. Not being in control of your survival time is exactly what makes the experience unique.
